DESIGN OF KHDTK ARCAMANIK, WEST BANDUNG REGENCY, WEST JAVA FOR CONSERVING BAMBOO DIVERSITY

Bamboo has many functions, both for the environment and human viability. Indonesia has 176 species from 24 bamboo genera and has areas of bamboo forests reaching 2 million ha in total. Arcamanik Special Purpose Forest Area (KHDTK) is one of the areas that has bamboo collection blocks. However, curre...

Indonesia has 176 species from 24 bamboo genera and has areas of bamboo forests reaching 2 million ha in total. Arcamanik Special Purpose Forest Area (KHDTK) is one of the areas that has bamboo collection blocks. However, current usage by local communities and the lack of management in the area will pose a threat to existing bamboo collections. Therefore, potential and clump characteristics data is needed to see the current condition of bamboo and as a reference for proper bamboo management. The aim of this research is to determine the potential of bamboo in KHDTK Arcamanik and determine the characteristics of bamboo clumps in KHDTK Arcamanik. The research was carried out by placing 35 plots measuring 20 × 20 meters with a distance between plots of 30 m to the north and 25 m to the west/east according to the bamboo planting map and existing routes at KHDTK Arcamanik. The data collected are clump coordinates, number of clumps, number of culms/clump, clump height, and clump circumference. Based on the research results, there are 14 species of bamboo found in KHDTK Arcamanik, among these types there are 5 species of bamboo with the highest potential namely gombong (Gigantochloa pseudoarundinacea), ater (Gigantochloa atter), tali (Gigantochloa apus), ampel hijau (Bambusa vulgaris var. vulgaris), dan lemang (Schizostachyum brachycladum). In terms of potential, gombong (Gigantochloa pseudoarundinacea) dominancing the area with an average of 39 clumps/ha while batu (Dendrocalamus strictus) is the least abundant type of bamboo with an average of 1 clump/ha. Of all the existing bamboos, tamiang (Schizostachyum blumei) is the densest bamboo with 153-159 culms/clump with a clump circumference of 15 m and tutul (Bambusa maculata) has the highest clump with an average of 28.9 m. Meanwhile according to five bamboo species with highest potential, ater (Gigantochloa atter) has clumps with the highest density with 29-32 culms/clump with a circumference of 9.07 m and tali (Gigantochloa apus) has the highest clumps with an average of 22.87 m. text
