This adjustment of vessel size for container transportation needs to consider the existing conditions and port development needed, such as berthing facilities and dredging activities. In this research, the determination of container vessel size is reviewed through a case study of optimal vessel requirements to meet the container demand of 250,000 TEU on the T-2 Tol Laut transport network which stops at Port of Teluk Bayur, Port of Sikakap, Port of Pulau Baai, Port of Gunung Sitoli, and Port of Sinabang. Determination of the optimal vessel size for the network will be reviewed from the need for berthing facilities development, dredging activities, as well as cost requirements for the two port development activities. The research results show that to meet the demand for 250,000 TEU containers on this route, a 5,000 DWT vessel with 370 TEU capacity is the optimal vessel to serve the container transportation activities based on development needs that need to be carried out at the destination ports on this route. text |
