Description
Summary:Based on questionnaires collected from 100 jamu user, Curcuma domestica (turmeric) is known to become one of herbal medicines that mostly used by people. People might consume turmeric together with modern drug. If turmeric and modern drug used concomitantly, it would possible lead an interaction between them. The aim of this study was to examine the interaction of turmeric extract with paracetamol and diazepam. Study began with questionnaire and then continued with research in laboratory. The SwissWebster male mice consist of the control group and three dose groups of extract. All groups were treated for 14 days with turmeric extract. On day 15th, paracetamol groups received chemically induced pain and then given parasetamol at a dose of 100 mg/kg bw. Diazepam groups were given diazepam at a dose of 10 mg/kg bw. Evaluation parameters include writhing (paracetamol groups) and activity score on the platform (diazepam groups). Administration of turmeric extract at dose of 50 mg/kg bw, 100 mg/kg bw, and 200 mg/kg bw for 14 days increased the number of writhing and significantly reduced the effect of paracetamol since the minutes 60th after paracetamol comsumption. Administration of turmeric extract at dose of 50 mg/kg bw, 100 mg/kg bw, and 200 mg/kg bw for 14 days increased activity scores and reduced the effect of diazepam, but not significant to control group. The results of this study showed turmeric extract significantly reduce paracetamol effect to control group and reduce diazepam effect but didn’t significant to control group.
