This study aimed to identify whether the expenditure of energy in outdoor activities such as the Pendidikan Dasar Wanadri (PDW) 2010. This study measured energy expenditure of normal activities in one day before and during Pendidikan Dasar Wanadri 2010, period in 4 to 16 July 2010 at Situ Lembang, at 1600 meters above sea level. Measurement of body weight, body fat percentage and blood pressure have been performed on certain days of each different type of activity. Questionnaires have been distributed to research subjects on the last day of each different activity. Energy expenditure in normal activities (before Pendidikan Dasar Wanadri 2010) was 2956 ± 495 kcal/day. Energy expenditure during 12 days doing outdoor activities, i.e. longmarch (8286 ± 730 kcal/day), barak (3610 ± 592 kcal/day), bivak ponco (5435 ± 659 kcal/day), and bivak alam (5579 ± 199 kcal/day). Total energy intake during Pendidikan Dasar Wanadri 2010 was the highest recorded for 1817 kcal/day. Weight loss (10.20 ± 0.80 %), body fat percentage decreased (48.80 ± 2.63 %), and fat-free mass decreased (2.87 ± 0.06 %) in subjects. High blood pressure was observed on the first day of entering new types of activities as well as new training field. Increased blood pressure in the first day of each type of activity with a new practice field. Generally, increased appetite and tend to sleep soundly at the time the subjects were in Situ Lembang. Appetite increased, but energy intake was smaller than the energy expenditure in subjects during outdoor activities in Situ Lembang, thus resulting in changes in body composition such as weight loss, body fat percentage decreased, and fat-free mass decreased. text |
