Description
Summary:The oil and gas industry play an important role in meeting global energy needs. These operations involve various complex processes that can pose significant safety risks, one of which is from high-pressure units. Slugcatcher separators handle a wide range of hazardous materials under high pressure and temperature so understanding the potential hazards is important. This research was conducted on the slugcatcher separator on Platform X to determine the hazard and potential fire risks using the HAZOP and Dow’s Fire and Explosion Index methods. The results of research using the HAZOP method show that the deviation condition that causes the greatest hazards are less flow, more flow, more pressure, high temperature, high level, and low level. The greatest danger of all the dangers posed is fire and explosion caused by cracks and leaks in both pipes and units with a risk value of 15 (severe). The results of Dow’s Fire and Explosion Index have a value of 110.6 (intermediate), 105 (intermediate), 118.5 (intermediate), and 226.5 (severe) for slugcatcher separator GSA 1, GSA 2, both, and the whole platform respectively. The explosion radius in each scenario is 28.3 m, 27.1 m, 30.3 m, and 57.9 m, respectively. Financial losses due to business disruption reached 1 trillion rupiah in the worst scenario analyzed. These results state that the company's management needs to pay attention to and monitor the ability of the unit in the operation process so that risk mitigation measures can be taken quickly in the event of a unit failure.
