CHARACTERISTICS OF OCEAN WAVES IN THE JAVA SEA (CASE STUDY: THE OCCURRENCE OF TIDAL FLOODING ON THE NORTHERN COAST OF JAVA, MAY 23 – 25, 2022)

This research aims to analyze the characteristics of sea waves during the occurrence of tidal flooding on the North Coast of Java from May 23 to 25, 2022. Tidal surges are natural events that often have serious impacts on coastal areas, including potential threats to infrastructure, the environme...

INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/79199 This research aims to analyze the characteristics of sea waves during the occurrence of tidal flooding on the North Coast of Java from May 23 to 25, 2022. Tidal surges are natural events that often have serious impacts on coastal areas, including potential threats to infrastructure, the environment, and human life. The research method involves modeling sea wave data during the tidal surge period using the Simulating Wave Nearshore (SWAN) software and data from sea wave measurements in the Java Sea. The data used as input for the model is divided into two categories: wind data and bathymetry. The model-generated data includes wave height and direction with spatial and temporal variations. The analysis of the data reveals specific patterns and characteristics of sea waves during the tidal flooding period on the North Coast of Java. It is found that the average wave height and wind speed tend to be higher in May compared to April. Furthermore, wind patterns contributing to the tidal flooding phenomenon are identified. There is an increase in wind speed and significant wave height from May 19 to 25, 2022, for 7 days, with wind speeds reaching up to 12 m/s and wave heights reaching 1.5 m in the Java Sea. This research enhances the understanding of sea wave characteristics during tidal flooding on the North Coast of Java. The findings also have the potential to contribute valuable insights into the scientific understanding of sea wave characteristics in this region, supporting further research in oceanography. text
