Adsorption is used as an alternative method to decrease the dyes from amuent because easy to operate. didn·t leave any toxic residue and can be used with variative adsorbent. Alginate has advantage to adsorb methylene bl ue, because alginate contains negatively charged functional groups to adsorb positively charged methylene blue. Ad vantages of alginate foodgrade in contrast of alginate commercial are more concentrated alginate and cheaper cost. Purposes of this research are to make alginate foodgrade based adsorbent, characterized using FTIR, XRD, SEM, and TGA method, and adsorb methy lene blue using alginate foodgrade based adsorbent. Alginate foodgrade based adsorbent 4% (m/m) production start with solving 4 grams of alginate foodgrade in IOO mL aqua dm, then alginate solution dripped to CaCh 0.18 M and stayed overnight. Characterization using FTlR method showed adsobent is successfully made. Methylene blue adsorption using alginate foodgrade based adsorbent showed optim um adsorption condition within pH 4 and 1 hour of contact time. Kinetics model of adsorption on this research is pseudo second order with kinetics constant is 0.136 x io·1 g.mg·1.min·1• The isotherm model of adsorption is Langmuir with maximum adsorption capacity is 74.29 mg/g at 25°C. text
