Description
Summary:Applications of pharmaceutical care and pharmacoeconomy can improve the achievement of maximum therapeutic results and minimum cost. This study compared class biguanide and sulphonylurea, or the combination with cost-effectiveness analysis and cost minimization. Based on cost-effectiveness analysis with ICER as parameter, biguanide class was better in lowering fasting blood glucose levels as well as two hour postprandial, in terms of both cost and efficacy. Antidiabetic drug combination containing metformin HCI and gliburide combined with biguanide had higher efficacy and cost than a single antidiabetic oral drugs, while for two hour postprandial a single group showed a better decreasing effect. Other combination groups, i.e biguanide and sulphonylurea class, gave a lower fasting blood glucose and two hour postprandial and higher cost than single biguanide group. Cost minimization.analysis showed non-generic and generic drug had comparable efficacy, but non-generic drugs have a higher cost.
