INFLUENCE OF FERTILIZERS ON WATER QUALITY OF IRRIGATION (CASE STUDY: LEBAK MUNCANG VILLAGE, BANDUNG REGENCY)
Water is essential in the agriculture sector; its quality and management contribute to better harvest yield, regional economy, and social wellbeing. However, several substances used in agriculture like fertilizers are detrimental to the environment if utilized excessively. At the agriculture-focu...

However, several substances used in agriculture like fertilizers are detrimental to the environment if utilized excessively. At the agriculture-focused village Lebakmuncang located at Bandung Regency, the water used for irrigation is studied to evaluate the influence of fertilizers on its quality as it travels down the agriculture fields. Twelve samples of water are taken along six sampling points of the field’s tertiary irrigation channel. These samples are examined for nine water quality parameters: temperature, pH, TDS (Total Dissolved Solids), COD (Chemical Oxygen Demand), total phosphate, total nitrogen, nitrite, nitrate, and ammonium. The results are then compared with two water quality standards: Class 2 (Government Regulation 22/2021) and Excellent (Water Resources Research and Development Center). The result of the analysis shows that not only does the concentration of COD, total phosphate, total nitrogen, and nitrite exceed at least one of the standards, but the pollution occurring in the irrigation water is moderate in severity according to the calculated pollution indexes. text |
