WORKSTATION DESIGN FOR DISABLED WORKER USING ERGONOMICS PRINCIPLES

Yayasan Kreativitas Difabel Mandiri (YKDM) is one of leg and hand prosthesis craftsmen in Bandung that operates without a clear division of job and workstations, also has potential ergonomic hazards. Another problem found is wastes in the form of delays and transportation. This study aims to design...

INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/79363 Yayasan Kreativitas Difabel Mandiri (YKDM) is one of leg and hand prosthesis craftsmen in Bandung that operates without a clear division of job and workstations, also has potential ergonomic hazards. Another problem found is wastes in the form of delays and transportation. This study aims to design workstation needed to help workers work more efficiently and to avoid ergonomic hazards. Methods engineering is used as guideline in designing the improvement of the process of making prosthetic legs below knee. Select project is done by observing to identify the problems. Get and present data concluded by using the Flow Process Chart tools, survey of complaints of musculoskeletal disorders, and checklist of potential ergonomic hazards. Analyze data is concluded by analyzing the data obtained, then developing alternative improvements. Alternative improvements are made by referring to work design principles and anthropometry and design for designing workstations. Workflow improvement is carried out using line balancing. The develop ideal method is carried out to further develop the selected alternative. The result of the research is a workstation design based on the principles of design for average and design for extreme individuals. The proposed layout complies the calculation results of workstation needs, work area dimensions, power lines, and efficiency between stations. The design made is estimated to increase work efficiency by reducing 83,2% delay time and reducing 91,7% transportation time. In terms of safety, the new design is estimated to reduce ergonomics hazard level from “dangerous” to “not dangerous” by reducing 6-9 of the potential hazard’s points. text
