Description
Summary:Urban drainage systems are made to deal with excess surface water, mostly originating from rainfall. Most urban drainage systems are open channel designs that flow by gravity . Such as the urban drainage system used in Bandung City. Bandung City is located in a geological feature called the Bandung Basin which makes some of its areas higher in elevation with steep slopes while most other areas are at relatively low elevations with relatively flat slopes. Areas of Bandung City with a flat slope generally resort to flowing their drainage towards local tributaries of the Citarum River. One of these areas is the Antapani District, including its sub-districts. The Antapani Tengah Subdistrict uses a combination of open road-side channels and canals, which collect flow from the surrounding road-side channels, to channel storm water towards the local receiving water bodies. For optimal performance throughout the year, not only during periods of heavy rainfall, the shape, dimensions and slope of the channel must be designed well. Hydrological analysis culminating in the amount of peak rainfall per return period forms the basis of the drainage design. Rainfall return period is set to 5 years in accordance with Indonesian National Standard 03-6981-2004.. Mapping of existing drainage channels was carried out with the help of aerial photos and field surveys. Calculation of rainwater runoff discharge is carried out by dividing the study area into large blocks of hydrographic units and their physical characteristics measured and determined with the help of aerial photographs and field surveys. Road-side channels were redesigned into 2 types while canals into only one type. Type 1 of the road-side channel is an open, rectangular channel and type 2 of the road-side channel is a covered rectangular channel, while the canals are redesigned to be trapezoid with stacked channels. Each channel was also redesigned with dimensions deemed suitable for the calculated runoff discharge and with a channel slope that could better maintain appropriate flow velocity. The total construction cost for type 1 road-side channels is IDR 1,625,690,000, type 2 road-side channels is IDR 4,421,660,000 and canals is IDR 8,004,740,000 Operational costs for all channels are IDR 98,000,000 per year.
