GAIT STABILITY ANALYSIS BASED ON SPEED AND AGE CATEGORY USING RECURRENCE QUANTIFICATION ANALYSIS (RQA) METHOD

The cases of falling during a walk of senior citizens are high in number, and those cases could be possibly due to muscle strength degradation, age, or walking speed. If such a fall occurs and causes severe injury, the medical expenses to cover would be high, and thus such cases are becoming the bac...

If such a fall occurs and causes severe injury, the medical expenses to cover would be high, and thus such cases are becoming the background researches regarding the human gait. Repeating patterns of the gait are analyzed with RQA method. This research is conducted on 30 normal subjects categorized based on their age and walking speed on a treadmill. Before data acquisition is commenced, all the research equipments are made sure to meet the research protocol. Anthropometry measurement are then taken as supporting data for results analysis. Subjects are instructed to walk on the treadmill with their own set of slow, comfortable, and fast speeds. A total of 14 active markers are used to detect the movement of joints and segments, attached on subjects’ right and left leg and are positioned based on modified Helen Hayes method. Gait data are recorded by motion capture using 4 action cameras. Results are then analyzed with RQA method. A total of 29 subject datas are then analyzed. Reliablity analysis on RR and DET shows that DET parameter is more reliable in assessing stability. Age, speed, ROM, and conditions of the subjects will affect their respective DET value. Based on Kruskal-Wallis test, it can be concluded that the median of all age groups being tested have the same median. text
