VMC machines have limitations, especially in some cases where the machining process must be carried out with the spindle axis orientation horizontally. Therefore, in this undergraduate assignment, an additional spindle design was carried out to overcome these shortcomings. The design begins with making the terms and design objectives. Then do the manufacturing and modeling of alternative designs. In this design there are 3 alternative designs. Furthermore, static and dynamic analysis was carried out on the three designs. The analysis was carried out using the finite element method through the ANSYS software. The results of the analysis are used to select the three designs. The design selection was carried out using the Weighted Decisions Matrix Method. In the end, the selected design underwent assembly with the entire VMC Engine. The assembly design that has been made will be analyzed using the same method as before. In the end, the results of the analysis will be compared with the initial requirements and objectives as a test. The results of static and dynamic analysis show that alternative design 3 is the best design. Furthermore, simulations and further analysis on the assembly design were carried out. As a result, it is shown that alternative design 3 fulfills all the pre-determined requirements and objectives. text |

One of the important components that support the running of the manufacturing industry is
machine tools. One type of machine tool that is commonly used is a Vertical Machining
Center (VMC) machine with 3 axes of motion orientation. VMC machines have limitations,
especially in some cases where the machining process must be carried out with the spindle
axis orientation horizontally. Therefore, in this undergraduate assignment, an additional
spindle design was carried out to overcome these shortcomings.
The design begins with making the terms and design objectives. Then do the
manufacturing and modeling of alternative designs. In this design there are 3 alternative
designs. Furthermore, static and dynamic analysis was carried out on the three designs. The
analysis was carried out using the finite element method through the ANSYS software. The
results of the analysis are used to select the three designs. The design selection was carried
out using the Weighted Decisions Matrix Method. In the end, the selected design underwent
assembly with the entire VMC Engine. The assembly design that has been made will be
analyzed using the same method as before. In the end, the results of the analysis will be
compared with the initial requirements and objectives as a test.
The results of static and dynamic analysis show that alternative design 3 is the best design.
Furthermore, simulations and further analysis on the assembly design were carried out. As a
result, it is shown that alternative design 3 fulfills all the pre-determined requirements and
objectives. |
