However, this utilization has the disadvantage that burning SCG produces relatively high NOx pollution due to the high nitrogen content. Previous research has shown the benefits of wet torefaction of SCG which produced a product with less nitrogen content and higher heating value in several parameters. In this research, optimization of wet torrefaction parameters for SCG into solid fuel that have low nitrogen content so that potential of NOx pollution is smaller was carried out. In this research, wet torefaction of SCG was experimented on various parameters. The product characteristics studied were mass product, heating value, and nitrogen content. The self-sufficiency calculation of wet torefaction process was also carried out. To obtain the characteristic values in the temperature range of 140 – 200°C and holding time from 0 – 30 minutes, statistical modeling was carried out. From that results, optimization of wet torefaction parameters was then carried out. The result of the parameter optimization was wet torefaction at temperature of 160 °C and holding time of 0 min. With these parameters, the wet torefaction solid product has mass yield of 59.48%, heating value of 25.07 MJ/kg, nitrogen content of 0.84%, and self-sufficiency of 93.87%. The nitrogen content of the solid product is smaller and the heating value is higher than subbituminous coal B but the self-sufficiency is lower than 100% so that additional energy is needed for wet torefaction of SCG. text
