Description
Summary:Marijuana or cannabis is an annual flowering plant of the Rosales botanical order, which currently grows wild in various parts of the world, thriving in various types of soil in countries ranging from temperate to tropical climates. Marijuana contains a psychoactive compound called tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), which induces effects such as euphoria or altered perception. Indonesia is one of the countries that still prohibits its use in any form, except for research and scientific purposes as stated in Indonesian legislation and regulation concerning narcotics. This restriction correlates with the limited scientific knowledge about the marijuana plant in Indonesia, leading to overlapping information regarding the factual nature of the plant, both in favor and against, causing losses and chaos that divide social groups in Indonesian society. In the practice of sound art, which explores the phenomenon of contradictory information about the marijuana plant in Indonesia, this overlapping phenomenon is categorized as a sound collage phenomenon. It involves the practice of manipulating sounds by combining two or more sound recording pieces into a harmonious sound composition. The concept of sound collage is also known as sampling, often used by Hip-Hop musicians (DJs) in their creative processes. However, information commonly found in Indonesia tends to be negative (against) regarding marijuana. Therefore, the research as the final project aims to explore information on the positive (pro) aspects of marijuana, which is rarely found in Indonesia. This is presented in the form of a sound collage, appropriating songs with lyrics that support marijuana. Sound art, as a medium, transforms contradictory events to create soundscapes of marijuana celebration. The creation of sound art aims to manifest how marijuana can be something to be celebrated, as an appreciation or gratitude for its existence, rather than something that divides social groups. The celebration of marijuana is represented by a disco ball.
