Considering the importance of wearing a helmet while riding a motorcycle to reduce the risk of injury and death, then it is necessary to increase helmet use. Efforts to increase helmet use can be done by knowing the factors that influence the intention of helmet use. This study aims to determine the factors that influence the intention of helmet use in Indonesia. Data collection is carried out using an online questionnaire. The data collected is data related to demographic factors such as gender, age, licence ownership, helmet ownership, travel distance etc. In addition, data related to the conceptual model was also collected to determine the factors that influence intention of Indonesian motorcyclist to use helmet. Conceptual model is formed by integrating Theory of Planned Behavior, Classical Deterrence Theory related to legal sanctions, and Homel’s Model related to non-legal sanctions. Data processing using SEM PLS. The result showed that the prevalence rate of helmet use in this study sample is 48,26%. Demographic factors that caused different of helmet use in Indonesia are age, education level, marital status, having children, licence ownership, length of licence ownership, helmet ownership and travel distance. Empirical model regarding intention of Indonesian motorcyclist revealed that positive influence factors to intention of helmet use were positive attitude, subjective norms, internal loss and material loss. Whereas negative attitude and social sanctions negatively influence intention of helmet use. text |
