ANALYSIS OF THE INFLUENCE OF CHECK DAM STRUCTURE ON SEDIMENT PATTERNS AND CHANGES IN THE BOTTOM OF THE LIMAU RIVER, PADANG PARIAMAN DISTRICT, WEST SUMATRA
This study aims to conduct a assessment of the impact of check dam structures on sediment patterns and bed changes in the Limau River, Padang Pariaman Regency, West Sumatra. Check dams are expected to influence sedimentation patterns in the river. Therefore, this research aims to identify and quanti...

Check dams are expected to influence sedimentation patterns in the river. Therefore, this research aims to identify and quantify the impact of check dam structures on sediment patterns and riverbed changes. Simulations using the Q 50% reliable discharge show that over one year, the riverbed of the Limau River tends to experience erosion rather than deposition. This phenomenon is particularly evident downstream of the planned check dam, reaching a depth of hard soil layers up to 2.50 meters. Closed-type check dams, such as check dams 1 and 3 upstream, cause sediment deposition with thicknesses of 0.30 meters and 1.20 meters, respectively. However, not all check dams effectively retain sediment. Check dam 5, for example, which is an open-type check dam downstream, does not affect sediment flow and causes erosion along the river. Findings indicate that erosion is more influenced by the small sediment discharge under average flow conditions, explaining that check dams for average flow do not have a significant impact during one year of simulation. This study provides crucial insights for sustainable check dam implementation, river management, and flood control. text |
