Description
Summary:The Street corridors as public spaces in Indonesia face challenges in their exploitation caused by a lack of arrangement and management. The current exploitation of road corridors has not fully taken into account the balance between the function of space of movement, space of interaction, and the formation of the image of the city. One of the efforts being made to solve the problem is to make a plan. There is one road corridor that has not noticed the balance between the function of the movement space, the space of interaction, and the formation of the image of the city, namely the Siliwangi Road Corridor, Kuningan District, West Java Province. From that, this study will discuss the redesign of the Siliwangi Road Corridor, Kuningan district, to pay attention to the balance. This plan is structured on principles and concepts shaped from existing potential and challenges and follows relevant normative principles. The approach used in this study is a fragmentary method approach with data that comes from observations as well as an overview of related literature. The results of the data and analysis show that the Siliwangi Road corridor has some problems including space constraints, traffic problems such as traffic jams at certain hours, irregular parking, and insufficient pedestrian tracks. So the aspects of space efficiency, comfort, security, and accessibility are part of the design principles of the Siliwangi Road Corridor. Besides, as one of the elements that shape the image of the city, the integration of function and aesthetics is also part of the principles used. In the end, dealing with problems through the design of the Siliwangi Road corridor not only functionally affects and enriches the interaction activity of the community, but also aims to change the appearance of the streetscape to be more attractive and powerful.
