Summary: | Cultural tourism has emerged as a vital driver of the creative economy in Indonesia, leveraging various sectors such as the creative economy, cultural diversity, natural resources, demographic advantages, and a large consumer market. Women play a crucial role in the development of the creative economy and the tourism sector. Statistics indicate that the percentage of women employed in the creative economy sector surpasses that of men. However, women still face challenges in informal employment, including the risk of unpaid wages. This research focuses on a specific case in To'barana’, North Toraja Regency, where women contribute to the production of traditional woven fabrics, which is a key cultural attraction. They are involved in almost every aspect of the production process, from selecting raw materials to the final product. Despite their significant contributions, women often encounter obstacles, such as a lack of skills. Education and training are crucial factors in enhancing women's participation in tourism development. Concrete measures need to be taken by the government and stakeholders to provide better access to education and training for women. The empowerment of women in To'barana’ is not only essential for preserving and nurturing the weaving culture but also for creating sustainable and competitive tourism. With active involvement from women, the tourism sector can bring broader benefits to the local community while ensuring the preservation of local culture. This research employs a qualitative descriptive analysis approach and SWOT analysis to identify important factors that influence the development of women's roles in tourism. The findings of this study successfully explore strategies that focus on enhancing women's roles in sustainable cultural weaving tourism. These strategies include providing equal education and training opportunities, creating new tourist attractions, collaborating with weavers and other souvenir craftsmen, and promoting innovation in product design. Therefore, this research provides valuable insights into strategies aimed at enhancing women's roles in the preservation of sustainable tourism. |
