Description
Summary:The Rebana metropolitan area is an industrial area developed to support accelerated economic growth, especially in the West Java Province. To minimize failure in supporting development targets, it is necessary to carry out spatial planning by considering dangerous aspects in the development area, one of which is erosion or sediment deposition. This research utilizes remote sensing techniques and an integrated geographic information system (GIS) to identify erosion and sediment deposition in the Rebana metropolitan area. Landsat-8 satellite imagery is used to identify and measure spatial and temporal changes in coastlines that occurred in 2017-2022 with the Normalized Difference Wetness Index (NDWI) algorithm which is used as material for analyzing erosion and sediment deposition. The process of erosion and sediment deposition cannot be separated from hydro-oceanographic factors, such as hydrodynamic factors, namely currents and waves. This research also examines the relationship between marine hydrodynamic factors resulting from modeling and erosion and sediment deposition events resulting from remote sensing interpretation. The largest average erosion rate occurred in Pasekan Sub-district, Indramayu District, with 8.94 m/year. Meanwhile, the sub-district with the highest average sediment deposition rate is Pusakanagara Sub-district, namely 19.87 m/year. The current pattern in the Rebana Metropolitan area has a movement direction towards the south and sweeps towards the east around the land boundary, while at low tide the current will move towards the north and sweep towards the west around the land boundary. The relationship between the intensity of the hydrodynamic parameters in this study is still categorized as weak to the changes in the coastline (erosion and sediment deposition) that occur. The directional influence of hydrodynamic parameters also plays an important role in causing erosion and sediment deposition. Another thing is caused by errors in determining the position of the coastline which is a parameter for erosion and sediment deposition, and the significance of currents on sediment movement for the entire study area cannot be ascertained.
