INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/79745 Lathe machine is one of the widely used machine tools in the manufacturing industry. It is employed in the production process to create a product by rotating the workpiece and cutting it with a tool. ITB has established collaboration with institutions in South Korea to conduct research, including reverse engineering of lathe machines. However, the research faces challenges, particularly in the lack of production capacity to manufacture lathes of the same size as those donated from Korea. The solution to this problem involves an overall reduction in the dimensions of the lathe machine, especially its structure. This is followed by the design of other components, including the design of variations in spindle speed. Dimension reduction is carried out using the concept of parametric design, and spindle speed variation is designed through calculations based on existing references. In this undergraduate thesis, parametric design is implemented using a simple application from a previous undergraduate project with some modifications. Meanwhile, the design of spindle speed variation assumes an equal number of speeds but incorporates various structures to determine the most efficient one. The output of this undergraduate thesis includes technical drawings of the reduced lathe machine structure and the most optimum spindle speed variation, along with gear dimensions. text
