CWIS is introduced as an urban sanitation approach where all city residents (including the most vulnerable) have equal access to adequate, affordable, and improved sanitation services, considering various technology options and models throughout the sanitation service chain. CWIS promotes equality by recognizing the sanitation challenges in LMICs and reaching out to the most vulnerable through different approaches that adapt suitable solutions to local conditions. The novelty of this research lies in its approach to implementing CWIS. By conducting qualitative document analysis and in-depth interviews with various stakeholders, including marginalized and vulnerable populations, this research aims to develop a set of criteria for implementing inclusive sanitation that can guide policies and practices. The inclusion of marginalized communities and vulnerable groups in the stakeholder analysis and interview process is a unique aspect of this research, which can contribute to the development of more equitable and inclusive sanitation systems. It was found that existing regulations and policies already support the implementation of inclusive urban sanitation. text |
