Description
Summary:Autism and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) are categorized as two distinct neurodivergent conditions. Despite this, many overlapping characteristics are shared between the two, and their cooccurrence within the same individual is not uncommon. In addition, a lack of awareness and support from society can negatively impact those affected across many aspects of life; this generally results in poorer well-being compared to the neurotypical population. In furtherance of increasing the target audience’s understanding of autism and ADHD as experienced by those with both conditions, a semifictional interactive narrative chronicling the life of an autistic and attentiondeficit/hyperactive character was proposed. Development of the design was preceded by a literature study and separate online surveys which collected responses from two groups, namely autistic/ADHD individuals and members of the general population who met the intended audience criteria (young adults ranging from 18 to 25 years old). The results of this research were then used as a reference for the proposed design, which was prototyped within a web browser format.
