Description
Summary:Simpang Village, located in Southern Garut, West Java, Indonesia, faces several challenges, including limited natural resources, low income, and lack of access to education and healthcare. Pasanggrahan Baranangsiang (PBS), a non-profit organization operating in the village, aims to address these challenges through the establishment of a Community Learning Center (CLC). The CLC will provide education, training, and resources to the community. The CLC program aims to empower individuals and community groups to take control of their lives and improve their quality of life. In the establishment process, PBS must assess Simpang Village's needs and potential to determine the propitious CLC programs. As a non-profit organization, PBS encounters management issues, particularly financial constraints, which significantly influence the sustainability of community empowerment initiatives. This research uses participatory research, specifically by carrying out social mapping in Simpang Village and analyzing the strengths and weaknesses of the Pasanggrahan Baranangsiang organization so that a comprehensive understanding is gained to address the existing challenges. The aim of this research is to proposed strategies that can enhance the sustainability of PBS’s CLC. The research findings indicate that PBS’s CLC should implement training programs covering various aspects, including farmers' training, environmental education, health campaigns, entrepreneurship, equivalency education, supplementary literacy and mathematics classes, skills development, and soft skills training. To ensure long-term success, PBS’s CLC can adopt a multifaceted business strategy, including obtaining BAN-PNF accreditation for credibility and government support, forming strategic partnerships with companies to boost economic development, prioritizing relevant skill training for improved workforce quality, collaborating with other organizations for maximum impact, and considering a shift from a non-profit to a not-for-profit structure to enhance financial sustainability and strengthen PBS's position for sustainable community development.
