Summary: | PT XYZ is a manufacturing company that operates in the fast-moving consumer goods
(FMCG) industry, producing various types of products. One of the flagship products is
toothpaste. One of the frequent problems that happen there is the suboptimal utilization
of the packaging material warehouse due to the lack of storage media and item
classification. This is characterized by pallets placed on the floor, resulting in frequent
pallet congestion and repeated item movements. The research aims to analyze and
propose improvements to the layout of the packaging material warehouse at PT XYZ.
The problem-solving process begins with classifying items according to ABC and FSN
analyses, which are used to group items based on their significant impact on company
revenue and the frequency of incoming and outgoing packaging materials. The items
analyzed in both analyses are combined into eight classes: AF, BF, AS, BS, CS, AN, BN,
and CN. By calculating the consumption rate for each packaging material, the required
number of racks is determined based on the available area in the warehouse. Two layout
design proposals are then developed, each capable of accommodating 244 and 248
pallets, respectively. The material handling costs for the observed design is Rp 6.553.831,
the first proposed design is Rp 5.426.600, and the second proposed design is Rp
5.397.626. The validation is done using FlexSim simulation for both proposed designs,
resulting in the material procurement costs. The first proposed design incurs costs of Rp
5.004.931, and the second proposed design incurs costs of Rp 4.878.998.
