This research explores the enhancement of the equipment pool system in the support division of PT Freeport Indonesia, a leading Indonesian mining company. It addresses the critical need for efficient management of heavy equipment in a sector that significantly contributes to Indonesia’s Gross Domestic Product, employment, and regional development. The research focuses on the strategic use of heavy equipment within the company, emphasizing cost efficiency and resource optimization. It identifies the types of equipment commonly used across support divisions and assesses their usage patterns. The research pinpoints the weaknesses in the current equipment pool system, primarily triggered by sudden and unplanned requests, leading to suboptimal utilization and decision-making. By examining performance availability and utilization metrics, the research highlights the potential for cost savings through improved equipment-sharing practices. The main objectives include increasing equipment utilization, fostering collaboration among support divisions, and designing a business process. This research proposes recommendations for redesigning the equipment pool system to ensure a more effective business process. It offers insights into how PT Freeport Indonesia can improve its operational efficiency, leading to sustainable growth and enhanced cost performance, aligning with the company's commitment to operational excellence and stakeholder value creation. A significant portion of the research is dedicated to examining the adoption of a Product Service System (PSS) and business process mapping improvement in mining operations, a novel approach that emphasizes shared utilization of mining equipment. The project further employs the Kepner-Tregoe Problem Analysis to evaluate the efficacy of this business process, alongside an analysis of process improvement and control mechanisms in mining operations. The established system can be elaborated more in the future to get the involvement of other equipment types and division participants to increase the collaboration culture.
