INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/80118 In an effort to carry out sustainable fashion practices, the use of environmentally friendly alternative materials is one of the commitments to environmentally conscious design. One of them is using abaca fiber, which is a fiber that comes from a type of male banana tree that grows in the Sangihe Talaud area. Since ancient times, this fiber has been used as a material for crafts and traditional fabrics but is now considered extinct. So, efforts to use abaca fiber need to be made again. The properties of abaca fiber are strong, more durable, and can be biodegraded, making it good quality for making clothing. This research focuses on exploring the characteristics of abaca fiber through weaving for fashion. The abaca fiber is made into cloth and involves the material exploration pleats technique. The characteristics of abaca fiber woven fabric can help create new silhouettes and three-dimensional shapes, thereby providing an alternative to conventional textiles. So, this research aims to show the potential and characteristics of abaca fiber as clothing with the collection name "Manu' Niu." text
