The perception of certain individual lay upon the visual image they create for others to see. Clothing, or in particular garments, is among the necessities of daily life making it a crucial part of one’s visual image, in which can be used to portray their identity. All through the history, humans have shown boundless diversities in creation of identity through their culture and stories. Among it is a time stamp known as the Three Kingdoms of Korea, a pioneer of the Peninsula’s history of ancient kingdoms that managed to show variety of characteristics in their culture amidst homogeneous society. Three Kingdoms of Korea is the term used to classify the period of time during the reign of three kingdoms across the Korea Peninsula in 37 BC – 668 AD. The Kingdom of Goguryeo, Baekje, and Silla shows their culture’s characteristics through different perspectives of each tales. The three kingdoms portray each of their own identity, something crucial as all continuously played the role of enemy and ally to each other. Through their treasures and tales of history, the research generated nine series of motif each include three representations of the story of Goguryeo, Baekje, and Silla with application of surface textile techniques to strengthen each kingdom’s visual characteristics. The motifs portray variation of identities from the three kingdoms and is presented through garments as part of representing identity through visual image. text
