PLANNING AND PHYSICAL MODEL TESTING OF CHECK DAM, RIVERBANK PROTECTION, AND BRIDGE PILLAR PROTECTION MADE OF PENTASQUARE TYPE PENTAPOD IN CIBITUNG RIVER, A TRIBUTARY OF SAGULING RESERVOIR

A check dam is an engineered structure built in a river or stream to control water flow and collect sediment, as well as reduce erosion. The aim is to reduce the speed of water flow thereby avoiding erosion damage and assisting in the collection of sediment carried by the water flow. Check dams are...

The aim is to reduce the speed of water flow thereby avoiding erosion damage and assisting in the collection of sediment carried by the water flow. Check dams are usually made of various materials, such as stone, concrete, wood, or other materials that are resistant to water flow. One of the structures that can be developed for a check dam is a pentapod. A pentapod is a mechanical structure or device with five legs or supports made from concrete. The pentapod arrangement can be arranged regularly or irregularly. Regular arrangement can be installed with straps that are installed through holes that pass through the horizontal or vertical axes of the legs. In this way, the overall stability of the coastal structure is determined by the combined stability of the armor units connected to each other which is guaranteed to be much greater than the stability of conventional (unattached) installations. On the other hand, regular installation without binding reduces the number of armor units and reduces costs. The results of the research show that the hydraulic performance of the Pentapod Check dam Model Test is as follows: the flow conditions in both the upstream and downstream areas of the Check dam are safe. The stability and strength of the PentaSquare structure is stronger and safe, because it is bonded to the back plate, base plate and side plate. text
