Summary: | The development of post-industrial society and postmodern culture cannot be
separated from the development of consumerism in the discourse of progressive
capitalism. This problem becomes interesting when a reality such as cyberspace
appears and influences industrial society to create its identity. The symbolic
representation is a juxtaposition between original self-presentation and
self-presentation influenced by the virtual world which is influenced by
consumerist culture which results in a 'pseudo' self-presentation. In the context of
this discourse, it covers how industrial society is now lulled by reality formed by
cyberspace, the products of capitalism in the form of information, images formed
by the media into daily consumption of cyber reality which tends to shape identity
and will change along with developments that occur. in each of its cyber realities.
There are several stages in the process of creating this work, including reviewing
the theoretical approach to art as a symbol and supporting theories regarding
self-presentation to understand current phenomena and hear them in works of art.
A study of the video medium using the Pepper's Ghost projection technique
approach is used to process the scope of the work concept, which focuses on the
symbolization of self-presentation through clothing and lifestyle.
In an effort to provide material experiences to the appreciator, this work is
allegedly a form of exploration of the medium of video projection which depicts
illusions. The illusory idiom is represented through symbols in the final visual of
the video projection with a hologram effect. The choice of the title
"Phantasmagoria" is a reflection of where the original self-presentation or that
which has been influenced by cyberspace reaches the point of bias so that it is
difficult to distinguish whether the self-presentation is real or not. |
