Description
Summary:One of the defining factors of the quality of an electrical power system is the ability of the said system to continuously supply power starting from the generation up to distribution system. Insulator’s performance will degrade as time passes by, this is caused by a lot of things ranged from mechanical strain, thermal strain, or outside factors such as UV lights and pollutant. In order to keep the quality of a power system in a good state, a performance study of insulator needs to be done. The sample used in this study is a virgin insulator and two insulators taken from Gombong-Rawalo-Kesugihan line. Quality diagnostics of insulators used in this study are visual inspection, hidrophobicity class test, surface resistance measuring, and leakage current test. Samples are polluted using fly ashes and bottom ashes from PLTU Adipala and seawater from Teluk Penyu. From visual inspection can be seen that virgin insulator have cleaner visual compared to the sample insulators that have a flashover track, after pollutants are given it is shown that there will be accumulation of contaminant at the insulators surfaces. Hydrophobicity class test of the insulators result shows that the virgin insulator has same hydrophobicity class as the sample insulators, after pollutants are given it is shown that the hydrophobicity class of all insulators worsen. Surface resistance test shows that the value of the virgin insulator is the highest while the others insulators are about the same, after given the pollutant the surface resistance value of all insulators drop but the virgin insulator has higher drop compared to the other insulators. Leakage current measurement shows that the cross product of the virgin insulator is higher than the sample insulators, after pollutants are given it is shown that all cross products rose but the virgin insulator’s stay the highest.
