Summary:Heavy metal contents in PM2.5 particulate dust poses a potential risk to the health of human beings. Different land uses in a certain area may affect the composition and amount of heavy metals in PM2.5 dust. The purpose of this study is to measure PM2.5 dust concentrations and characterize heavy metals bound in PM2.5 in order to estimate health risks. PM2.5 dust was measured in Bandung Regency in residential, industrial, and agricultural land uses, located in Margaasih, Dayeuhkolot, and Ciparay sub-districts, respectively. Measurement of PM2.5 concentrations using a Low Volume Air Sampler (LVAS) with PTFE filters. Heavy metals in PM2.5 dust were characterized using ED-XRF. Calculation of non-carcinogenic and carcinogenic health risks was only performed on metals classified as Hazardous Air Pollutants (HAPs). The results of PM2.5 concentration measurements showed that the concentration of PM2.5 in industrial land use > residential > agriculture. The average concentration of PM2.5 in industrial and residential land use exceeds the daily ambient air quality standard based on PP No.22 of 2021, which is > 55µg/m3. Based on the results of the health risk analysis of heavy metal exposure, the HI>1 value is obtained in residential land use, or it can be interpreted that there is a potential non-carcinogenic health risk for adults and children living in the Margaasih area. Carcinogenic health risk analysis results in all land uses of both adults and children showed ECR>10-6 , indicating that there are unsafe health risks that could potentially lead to carcinogenic effects.
