The production and use of PCPs, such as soap, toothpaste, shampoo, and facial cleansers, can lead to the accumulation of PCPs in the environment due to the presence of various chemicals. The characteristics of wastewater, including its organic matter content, must be considered when it enters the sewer as it can impact the environment. This study aims to analyze the Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD), Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), and BOD/COD ratio (B/C) of graywater resulting from the use of PCPs to determine the status of wastewater treatment and the appropriate Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) technology. The samples tested were artificial graywater from three brands of liquid bath soap, shampoo, toothpaste, and facial cleanser products. The BOD and COD parameters were tested based on SNI 6989.72:2009 and the colorimetric method with closed reflux (APHA-5220-D) based on the Standard Method for Examination of Water and Wastewater. Statistical analysis data using the ANOVA One-way method was conducted on BOD/COD ratio data using Microsoft Excel. The results showed that the B/C ratio in the wastewater samples from the use of each liquid body soap and facial cleanser ranged from 0,16 – 0,39 (low biodegradability) and for shampoo and toothpaste products ranges from 0.37 to 0.63 (medium biodegradability). Hence, wastewater samples from using liquid body soap and facial cleanser can’t be treated biologically, whereas wastewater from using shampoo and toothpaste can be treated biologically text |
