Running is a sport that often causes excessive injuries to the lower legs and feet. Pain often arises due to injury after doing sports activities. Pain is an unpleasant sensory and emotional experience resulting from tissue damage, either actual or potential or described in terms of such damage. Injury is one of the obstacles for sportsmen or athletes in achieving sporting achievements. One of the recommended therapies to reduce pain is Nonsteroidal AntiInflammatory Drugs (NSAID). NSAIDs are generally combined with opioid drugs to relieve chronic pain, but NSAIDs can trigger undesirable side effects if consumed long term. In this study, tropical cream dosage form consisting of bandotan leaf essential oil, ginger essential oil, turmeric extract and black pepper administered to futsal athletes. The cream preparation was given to 20 futsal athletes administered who were given randomly for 3 days. Then, they were observed by giving questionnaires, including Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) questionnaire, an inflammation questionnaire and a safety questionnaire (side effects) in addition, there were an examination on biochemical parameters such as a Neutrophil Lymphocyte Ratio (NRL), a creatinine kinase and a quantitative C-Reactive Protein (CRP). The test results showed anti-pain activity and anti-inflammatory activities between the test group and placebo, as well as the results of biochemical parameter examination. This may be caused by the inadequated induction of pain and inflammation. Another possibility was insignificant the provision of additional physical exercise, so the inflammation was not achieved. The test results related to safety, some effects such as itchy reactions and redness of the skin, but the percentage of occurrence was small. These effects were also reported in a small number of the placebo group, so they were probably caused by the carrier. Thus, it can be concluded that the combination cream used did not show anti-pain and anti-inflammatory effects in the clinical trial model used in this study. text |
