In a city, the town square is a crucial facility as it is one of the providers of public open space because it can offer various benefits. As a public space, one of the benefits it provides is a venue for social activities for the urban community. Therefore, to ensure the success of activities and the comfort of visitors, the town square requires supportive facilities and effective spatial arrangements. However, there are issues in town square areas, such as the limited availability of supporting facilities within them and insufficient accessibility, leading to a decline in intensity and visitor interest. Cilegon Town Square is a public open space in the center of Cilegon City facing several issues, such as inadequate facility quality and poor vehicle accessibility. One alternative to address these issues is to redesign the public open space of Cilegon Town Square, aiming to optimize its public open space function. This redesign utilizes the fragmental method with optimizing design techniques and a placemaking approach. The redesign process considers the existing conditions of the area, its potentials and issues, as well as the perceptions and preferences of visitors and non-visitors. Additionally, design guidelines and literature related to public open spaces are used as references. The policy-making for the redesign of Alun-Alun Kota Cilegon is directed towards creating a pleasant and green atmosphere by providing scattered green open spaces, adequate supporting facilities, and recreational amenities, considering aspects of accessibility, comfort, functionality, and sociability in the area. text
