Description
Summary:Work and machinery safety is a very important aspect in ensuring the safety of machine users. To achieve safety, efforts are needed to adjust the machines and work environment to a certain standard. In Indonesia, there are several laws and national standards that regulate these matters. One of them is Standar Nasional Indonesia with code SNI 8588:2018 on Machinery Safety. To prevent accidents caused by hazards in machines, all machineries should be designed to comply with the previously mentioned laws and national standards, including the Plastic Shredder Machine in the Production Engineering Laboratory of ITB. However, it can be observed on its original form that the Plastic Shredder Machine does not meet the requirements of the law and national standards. Based on this problem, this research will be conducted to evaluate the safety aspects of the Plastic Shredder Machine. After conducting research using a risk assessment system, it is found that the machine did not meet 18 out of 42 safety requirements. The unmet requirements each allow hazards that are categorized into mechanical, electrical, ergonomic, heat, and combination hazards. From these hazards, potential of 7 high risks, 2 medium risks, and 9 low risks were identified.
