Description
Summary:This research is focused on the net production department of PT Arteria Daya Mulia (PT ARIDA) which is a manufacturing company producing high-quality fishing nets, yarns, and mines for export to various countries. Although the company has grown quite large, there are shortcomings that need attention, especially in the production of multifilament nets that have significant defects. Such defects can cause potentially large losses for the company identified up to IDR 1,835,379,000,- during January to July 2023. This research utilizes six sigma methodology to improve the quality of net production. This methodology aims to reduce variations and errors in the production process. Starting with the define stage of the DMAIC cycle, the project charter was created, the company's existing production process was observed, and the types of defects were identified. At the measure stage, a process capability calculation was carried out which resulted in a sigma value of 3.34. The Analyze stage highlighted the types of lerek and hairy net defects as the focus of research, with a cumulative frequency of 77%. The Improve stage provided a proposed improvement design, including the design of additional auxiliary tools, the suggestion of using wear-resistant materials on the machine, the development of a shuttle machine SOP, and a machine maintenance checklist sheet for the net production process. Furthermore, the Control stage involves the creation of SOPs to ensure the implementation of the solution goes according to plan. Implementation of the proposed improvements is expected to increase production performance and capability, reduce the risk of errors, and minimize defects in net products. Measurement of the estimated impact of the improvements was conducted using FMEA analysis which showed a 35% decrease in RPN, reflecting an improvement in the quality of the net production process.
