Description
Summary:The number of Diabetes Mellitus (DM) patients tends to increase by years and Diabetes Mellitus can cause Diabetic Foot Ulcer (DFU) complications which are one of the highest causes of death and amputation of part or all of the patient's arms and/or legs. DFU complications are very susceptible to getting worse and require early detection and prevention methods. This final project research aims to synthesize Carbon Dots (CDs) from Bombyx morii silkworm cocoon as precursors using the hydrothermal method with addition of NaOH. The resulting Carbon Dots showed a size range of 2-12 nm with a quasi-spherical morphology, with the Carbon Dots of the sericin precursor having the smallest size compared to the cocoon or fibroin precursors. The addition of 0.1 g NaOH produces singular Carbon Dots, while 0.2 g NaOH produces Carbon Dots that are partially clustered. There is a change in the transmittance spectrum of the Carbon Dots sample compared to the transmittance spectrum of the precursor. Carbon Dots with cocoon precursors have the highest reduction percentage in the range of 90% - 94% to both gram-positive or gram-negative bacteria.
