Description
Summary:People with disabilities are one of the minority communities in Indonesia. Based on their characteristics, people with disabilities have one right related to clothing that has not been realized, namely the lack of clothing that suits the characteristics, and needs of people with disabilities and companions. One of the people with disabilities who needs functional clothing. The body's stiff characteristics in both arms and legs make the dressing process difficult, so it is necessary to develop clothing in terms of design. This research aims to formulate a model for developing clothing into adaptive clothing for people with disabilities with severe spastic CP, quadriplegia. So this research uses a design psychology approach, design psychology is an approach used by a designer to understand users who interact with the object or product being designed. The research method used is qualitative with data collection obtained through interviews, documentation, and in-depth observations of sources and research subjects which are then analyzed using interdisciplinary data analysis, namely psychology, design, and ergonomics. The design method used is the development of design thinking theory and the design process into an adaptive clothing design process which consists of identifying needs, determining requirements, design, production process, validation, and dissemination. This method is used to analyze the needs of users and companions in designing adaptive clothing for people with severe spastic CP disabilities. The identification results based on the design process for people with severe spastic CP disability are quadriplegia type. This type has body characteristics that can affect the dressing process because there is stiffness in the circumference of the upper arms, elbows, and wrists. After identifying the characteristics, specific body measurements are then taken as a reference in determining the silhouette and making clothing patterns. Psychological factors, family culture, and the meaning of clothing as references for determining the texture and color of clothing. Based on the results of the design and analysis process, four values were found, namely: (1) psychological value; (2) family cultural values; (3) functional value; and (4) aesthetic value which will be a reference in recommendations regarding adaptive clothing designed taking into account the characteristics and needs of people with disabilities with severe spastic CP, quadriplegia and companions. Scientific contribution in the form of recommendations or guidance in making adaptive clothing designs for people with severe spastic CP disabilities.
