Summary: | This research develops an energy trading platform as an option in harnessing the excess energy potential of distributed energy sources. This solution aims to provide a decentralized trading system that is without third parties but can still guarantee the continuity of transactions. Therefore, a transaction platform called PowerChain was created to provide security, transparency, and good interaction between users and devices. In this study, two important features were designed, namely the seller's peer determination algorithm and smart contracts as a form of agreement between sellers and buyers. Peer determination is carried out based on distance parameters and energy availability. This is done by utilizing Message Queuing Telemetry Transport (MQTT) as a means of communication between peers and servers. Smart contracts are then created on the platform by connecting them with ethereum-based blockchain simulation device Ganache. The existing features are then integrated in a simple website application that uses the Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) protocol.
The platform was built using the Ganesha ITB Campus as a case study. Simulation is done using Docker by building servers, protocols, and peers into containers. The simulation results then show the functionality of the platform that works well in managing transaction details and history. The platform succeeded in determining the seller's peer correctly based on distance and smart contracts that were successfully executed correctly, namely between 2 peers who transacted with each other. The evaluation results show that PowerChain can be a peer-to-peer energy transaction platform that can guarantee transaction continuity.
