This kind of thing puts motorcycle riders in a risky situation that could potentially lead to traffic accidents. Therefore, the research aims to identify the risky situations that occur in Surabaya. The goal will be achieved through risky situation study research with a naturalistic driving study (NDS) study approach. The naturalistic driving study approach involves at least ten motorcycle riders to drive for one to two days with 10 km of minimum distance. Participants ride a motorcycle which is equipped with a single camera to record risky situations they encounter. The result of the riding video was processed through a data reduction process, thus obtaining 418 risky situation or safety critical events (SCE) which later categorized into 61 safety critical events scenarios based on similarities. The result of this study indicated that two main factors are responsible for risky situations, namely human error and road factor. Human error contributes to most risky situations, especially traffic violations. Suggestions or intervention recommendations were provided for the three risky situation scenarios most frequently encountered by participants and three other risky situation scenarios with high risk of traffic accidents based on the trainer's judgement. The implication of the results are proposed recommendations for intervention using the 3E approach, namely education, enforcement, and engineering. Suggestions for further research are to validate the proposed recommendations given this study. text
