Description
Summary:The traditional literature on urban identity in planning theory extensively discusses architectural and geographical landscape elements, while biotic elements receive less attention. This dissertation aimed to uncover the role of biotic elements in shaping the urban identity, encompassing the contexts of identity of urban, identity in urban, and identity for urban. Additionally, the dissertation sought to explain those three concepts of urban identity, facilitating a clearer understanding in both theoretical and practical planning contexts. Employing a case study strategy, the dissertation focused on the singular case of Watansoppeng City, known for its bat habitat in the city center. Data collection methods included interviews, observations, documentation, and data extraction from Google Review. The findings of the dissertation presented a conceptual framework for urban identity, consisting of identity of urban, identity in urban, and identity for urban. Furthermore, the study revealed the significant role of biotic elements as the identity of urban Watansoppeng, contributors to the community identity (identity in urban) in Watansoppeng, and materials for branding Watansoppeng City (identity for urban).
