It is not just an open space; Merdeka Square reflects the spirit of freedom and unity that has great significance to Medan's continuous development. The rapid urbanization process in Medan City has caused the city's temperature to rise higher compared to the surrounding areas due to its tropical climate, which presents challenges in creating thermal comfort. This study aims to analyze the new design of Merdeka Square in Medan City as it affects the thermal comfort of surrounding pedestrians. The study includes determining the most comfortable temperature for pedestrians, studying which aspects affect the thermal comfort of Lapangan Merdeka Kota medan and finding areas where the landscape can be changed/updated to improve pedestrian thermal comfort. The methods used will include the Predicted Mean Voted (PMV) method to determine the comfortable temperature for pedestrians, the use of ENVI-met to analyze the microclimate of the new design of Merdeka Square Medan City, and data collection through interviews and questionnaires. The results of this study are expected to provide guidance and site recommendations to improve the thermal comfort of Merdeka Square in Medan City. This, in turn, will encourage more people to walk and create a more pleasant environment.
