DETECTION AND QUANTIFICATION OF ASCARIS HELMINTH EGGS IN BANDUNG CITY COMMUNAL WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANTS

Ascaris spp. is a parasitic microorganism that can cause infectious diseases in the form of ascariasis. In addition to calculating the number of Ascaris spp. helminth eggs, an analysis of the characteristics of environmental parameters that can influence infection from Ascaris spp. helminth eggs,...

INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/81033 Ascaris spp. is a parasitic microorganism that can cause infectious diseases in the form of ascariasis. In addition to calculating the number of Ascaris spp. helminth eggs, an analysis of the characteristics of environmental parameters that can influence infection from Ascaris spp. helminth eggs, the effectiveness of eliminating helminth eggs in WWTPs, and a correlation analysis between characteristic parameters such as temperature, air content, pH, dissolved oxygen (DO), COD, BOD, and ammonia were carried out in the presence of fertile helminth eggs. The communal WWTP that were used as research objects were in three locations, including Palasari Village, Pasirjati Village, and Cipadung Wetan Village by taking air samples in three WWTP compartments and sludge samples in two IPAL compartments. Based on the results of measuring the initial characteristics of the samples, the conditions at the WWTP make it very possible for Ascaris spp eggs to be fertile. to progress with infection into disease. The effectiveness of reducing the fertile eggs of Ascaris spp. only occurred at the Pasirjati WWTP at 90.32%, with the largest clearance in the inlet tank. Based on the analysis results, it is known that the parameters of temperature, pH, ammonia, water content, DO, BOD and COD in the WWTP only have a slight effect on the inactivation of fertile helminth eggs. text
