Summary: | Land use transformation from vegetation to pavements in urban neighborhoods is
the biggest contributor to the Urban Heat Island phenomenon, especially in
downtown areas. Dukuh Atas, located right in the heart of Central Jakarta, has the
most transit nodes in Jakarta and a compact and dense design. This study aims to
formulate design principles for Dukuh Atas Area with more sensitivity to its climate
with the purpose of a more comfortable thermal environment for residents, workers,
as well as commuters who visit the place often. Through a mixed research method
comprised of descriptive-quantitative, qualitative, and spatial analyses, we’re able
to know the thermal comfort condition of Dukuh Atas development plan as well as
Climate-Sensitive Urban Design principles. This study uses Envi-Met to simulate
the thermal conditions of Dukuh Atas development plan using the PMV (Predicted
Mean Vote) scale. The result of Envi-Met simulation shows that Dukuh Atas Area
has a very high PMV index in the morning, categorized as very uncomfortable,
which is supported by high air temperature and mean radiant temperature values.
The design of Dukuh Atas Development Plan has not implemented ClimateSensitive Urban Design principles as well which contributes to the uncomfortable
thermal conditions. To reduce the PMV index and reduce Urban Heat Island effects
to the area, the design strategies concluded from this study are recommendations
to make the area have a more open configuration, creating superblocks, varying
building heights, and planting more trees and increase green open spaces. |
