Kuala Tanjung Multipurpose Terminal, located in Batubara Regency, North Sumatra, is a hub port for cargo exports originating from industrial areas in Kuala Tanjung and its surroundings. In order to fulfil these needs, dredging of navigation channel and turning basin is required. The Madrid MAERSK container ship with a capacity of 206,000 DWT was used as a design vessel in the design of the navigation channel and turning basin. The navigation channel layout design was 6.7 kilometers long and 20 meters deep under LWS while the turning basin had a diameter of 800 meters based on the Technical Standard and Commentaries for Port and Harbor Facilities in Japan 2020 and British Standard 6349-5:1991. Layout of the navigation channel and turning basin according to the design was then made into 67 cross-sections with a distance between sections of 100 meters which were drawn by using AutoCAD software. Furthermore, the dredging volume of navigation channel and turning basin was calculated by using the cross-section method and obtained a total dredging volume of 3,686,373 m3. This material would be dredged by using two units TSHD (Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger) Darya Kanchan dredger with real productivity 750.14 m3/hour and work duration of 147 working days. The costs required for dredging navigation channel and turning basin are calculated based on Bray, Bates, and Land (1996) in the book Dredging: A Handbook for Engineers and Minister of Transportation Regulation Number 78 of 2014. In addition, the estimated total costs required are Rp522,113,950,921 or in unit price Rp141,633 /m3 dredged volume. text
