Description
Summary:Traditional markets play a vital role towards the local economy, but issues such as waste management, poor accessibility, and inadequate security can reduce their potential. Traditional markets that often associated with a grimy and dirty image are also perceived in the Kemiri Muka Market area of Depok City, which faces from inadequate buildings, disorderliness, and discomfort. However, this market is the largest in Depok City and strategically located near Depok Baru Station. This circumstance certainly affects economic activities in the market and the income of traders, especially now that there are many more structured and clean shopping options available. This research aims to develop principles for rearranging the Kemiri Muka Market Area. The research method used is exploratory qualitative, with data collection through interviews, observations, literature reviews, and precedent studies. The approach used in this research is normative and supply-demand oriented, using case studies and grounded theory methods. This research begins with the formulation of normative principles for traditional market areas, which will be compared with the case of the Kemiri Muka Market based on its characteristics, potential, issues, and the perceptions and preferences of its users. Also, the needs of the area will be identified for the identification of criteria, components, and principles for rearranging the Kemiri Muka Market Area. The implication of this research is to provide guidance for local governments, developers, and other stakeholders in rearranging the Kemiri Muka Market Area of Depok City. It is hoped that this research can serve as a basis for efforts to improve the market quality and benefit its users.
