Description
Summary:South Sulawesi, as a region with high mobility in Indonesia, requires adequate transportation infrastructure to support sustainable economic and urban growth. In line with the government's commitment to developing the railway network on Sulawesi Island, a railway track from Makassar City to Pare-Pare City has been built. Previously, people only had the option of buses as public transportation for intercity travel. However, with the presence of trains as a new alternative, people's choice of transportation modes is increasing. This research aims to determine travellers' mode preferences between buses and trains (Makassar-Parepare) by considering the factors that influence travellers' choice of mode of transportation based on socio-economic characteristics and travel characteristics based on revealed preferences as well as travel time and travel cost attributes for stated preference. Where, the results of the research show that the characteristics of travelers based on socio-economic and travel characteristics tend to prefer the train mode. Furthermore, from the results of interventions that have been carried out on travel time and travel cost attributes, it was found that travelers will choose public transportation modes with shorter travel times and more affordable costs.
