RESONANCE PHENOMENA BY TRAPEZOIDAL BREAKWATERS AND MANGROVES

Abrasion can be caused by wave resonance phenomena in a basin which can cause damage to the coastal environment. The coming of external forces into the basin with a period similar to the natural period of the basin is one of the main causes of this resonance phenomenon. To overcome this resonance...

The coming of external forces into the basin with a period similar to the natural period of the basin is one of the main causes of this resonance phenomenon. To overcome this resonance phenomenon, one way that can be done is to build a wave breakwater. We will examine the influence of a basin with one submerged trapezoidal breakwater block with a smooth and rough surface, as well as a basin with one submerged trapezoidal breakwater block with a rough surface where mangrove trees were added between hardwall and the breakwater. To study about this resonance phenomenon, we will determine the natural period of the basin analytically using linear shallow water equations (LSWE). This natural period will be used to perform numerical simulations that can verify and detect resonance phenomena. For basins with rough surfaces and basins with mangroves, we will also determine the optimal roughness coefficient required to prevent resonance events. text
