STRATEGY OF ARRANGEMENT OF PUBLIC SPACES BASED ON LEVEL AND CONDITION OF PLACEMAKING IN KAMPUNG JOGOKARIYAN, YOGYAKARTA CITY

Public space is an important element in the social dynamics of society and plays a key role in shaping the aesthetics of the city, as well as providing mutual impacts on the surrounding environment. In recent years, efforts to develop urban public spaces globally have been greatly influenced by the concept of placemaking in improving urban physical features. This is what happened in Kampung Jogokariyan with the Jogokariyan Mosque as its focal point, many changes occurred which became a form of adaptation and response. regarding the development of the Kampung Jogokariyan area, these changes are not only found visually, but there are many functions of the area's outdoor space which is dominantly public space. However, placemaking that occurs organically without a structuring strategy will also present several challenges, such as the potential to lose the unique main characteristics of Kampung Jogokariyan. Therefore, this research aims to formulate a strategy for public space planning in Kampung Jogokariyan based on the level and conditions of placemaking that occurs. The type of research used in this research is a mixed methods method which combines two forms of research, namely qualitative research and quantitative research. The research results show that the three objects of observation in Kampung Jogokariyan, namely the Jogokariyan Mosque, road and pedestrian spaces, as well as fields and courtyards have shown a very high level of placemaking. However, there are conditions in which several variables still require improvement, such as the Jogokariyan Mosque requiring adjustments to the variables safe, convenient, neighborly, and accessible. Meanwhile, road and pedestrian space requires an increase in the active, fun, safe and convenient variables. The final object of observation, namely fields and pages, requires improvement in the variables safe, active, fun, special, neighborly, and convenient. Based on these levels and conditions, a strategy for public space planning in Kampung Jogokariyan was formulated. It is hoped that this strategy will not only strengthen the unique characteristics of the village, but also promote sustainability and meet the needs and aspirations of its users.
